    The Medical Coder is responsible for coding medical terms and medications using MedDRA and WHO Drug dictionaries, creating a Coding Plan and facilitating the review and approval process with the client (if applicable), reviewing coding listings, issuing coding related queries when necessary to code a term, performing quality control review of the coding dictionary setup in the respective coding tools, performing coding license validation of all clients, and communicating related problems to the coding vendor and/or study team as appropriate. Coding is performed using a variety of coding systems that are dictated by the client.

    • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • Create a Coding Plan and facilitate the review and approval process of the Coding Plan with the client (if applicable)
    • Perform coding of medical terms using MedDRA, MedDRA Term Selection: Points to Consider Guidelines, and client specific coding conventions (if applicable)
    • Perform coding of medications using WHO Drug, WHO Drug Best Practices guidelines, and client specific coding conventions (if applicable)
    • Review coding via data listings to check for accuracy, consistency, and medical sense
    • Provide the client with coding listings and facilitate the review and approval process of the coded terms
    • Issue coding related queries when necessary to code a term
    • Communicate coding related problems to the coding vendor and/or study team as appropriate


    • Education: Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree with at least 2 years of experience in clinical research and/or management approval is required. An MD, RN or a graduate degree in a scientific/medical area or equivalent experience is preferred.
    • Certification: CMC MedDRA Coding Certification is preferred but not required
    • Experience: Minimum 6 months experience using MedDRA and/or WHO Drug is required.
